Our Support & Transition Services Department includes a dedicated team of case managers and support staff who provide the critically-needed counseling and assistance to help our youth participants address the personal challenges they face and remain enrolled in our work and education programs.
Case Management
Our case managers help corpsmembers focus on their individualized service plans which include their personal, educational and occupational goals, and map out the practical steps they need to take in order to achieve them. We provide information to corpsmembers regarding other post-secondary education institutions and assist them as needed with applications and financial assistance forms.
Follow-Up Services
Once our corpsmembers have exited the program, they are tracked by case managers for up to 12 months to ensure their success with full-time employment and, if applicable, their educational endeavors. Case managers call and visit corpsmembers at work to check on their progress and to help them resolve any problems that may arise after they secure employment; at this time, we will provide additional job placement and employment retention services as needed.
Transitional Living Program
Since 2002, we have administered a Transitional Living Program with funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services for Young Adult Corps corpsmembers who experience homelessness while enrolled in the program. Corpsmembers reside in safe, transitional housing for up to 18 months and participate in mandatory life skills classes.
Youth Leadership Council
The Youth Leadership Council is the formal mechanism for corpsmember feedback to the LA Conservation Corps' executive management team. Youth can voice their concerns and are actively involved in program design and improvement. We value corpsmembers' feedback and in turn, they learn how to organize in small groups in order to voice their opinions in constructive ways. Positions include President, Vice President, Secretary, Public Relations, two Treasurers, Reporter and Sergeant-at-Arms.
One-on-One Mentoring
Current project includes the Corpsmember Mentoring Program during which Council members are paired up with and mentored by Corps administrative and program staff. Corpsmembers learn how to interact with adult figures and how to serve as mentors for their peers.
Scholarship Programs
The LA Conservation Corps offers three privately-funded educational scholarships for past and current participants of all ages. Young Adult Corps corpsmembers are also eligible for our fourth scholarship, the AmeriCorps Education Awards.
